LN2Tech Computer repair service
The reason I haven't been updating the website, other than the usual laziness, is the computer service business I founded myself (with father's help).
Well, signing off. 2011 will be fun.
retriving gold from old computer parts
Tom's Hardware ran an article about recovering gold from old motherboards, many of them. Very interesting article.
Don't try this at home!! not only it is very dangerous with the acid chemicals, it is not worth the effort.
Do we need anyone to really tell us what to do with our gadgets?
So the EFF actually went thru the DMCA laws and actually find that we can now legally jailbreak and unlock our iPhones?
I am still very appralled at this idea. To have someone telling us what we CAN do, and we thought this is a "free" country.
When I buy something, I expect to have full ownership of that thing. If I buy a laptop, I can expect to install a lot of software from anyone and anywhere and in any way I like it. Why should it become any different when it comes to a smart phone?
You don't have to support it. You don't have to offer warranty support when the phone's software has been "tempered" with. You have no business to decide how I use it, however.
However, there is one thing to be sure about. Jailbreaking and Unlocking will continue forever, DMCA or not. People demand freedom, and it is not up to some artificial piece of law to stop it. If it looks like a sale, it is a sale. If something is sold to me, it is mine and mine only. When someone sells me that iPhone, I own the casing, the chips, the attenas, the glass front and back and the LCD, everything!! Then I am free to change it however I like, including the bit arrangement inside that flash chip. Oops, is that jailbreaking and unlocking?
yeah, that's my own bloody business I do on my phone!!
I don’t even know what to post…. so
Just touching this blog to make sure it is stilll alive.
They say if you are committed to something, you ought to write it down and recite to yourself every morning...
1. learn useful skills.
1a. learn SQL, PHP, and JS
1b. continue menuforlocals.com
1c. learn guitar/music
2. find a job
3. commit to less games
now, I just need to come back every day and read this thing... if I would ever do...
Verizon has to be the one giving out the worst equipments.
why would someone build a router inside a single port modem? which becomes hellishly difficult to setup with a seperate router?
Maybe Verizon wants you to spend extra money to buy their modem with built in wifi router.
Now I am forced with this double router setup, which is still a huge pain.
I tried to follow the instructions at http://thtech.spaces.live.com/blog/cns!6B4852EB682BFBA!128.entry
to disable the built-in router inside the modem and it didn't work at all. I tried to setup DMZ inside that router which also doesn't work.
In short, nothing works properly with the built-in router from the modem.
Since I migrate from cable, I already have the entire network setup. I would prefer to just unplug my cable modem, plug in my dsl modem. Setup PPPoE on my own router and expect to go from there. It didn't work.
sigh... took about 5 hours just to get online with this stuff... I guess I will just have to live with it.
Here are some instructions to disable the built-in router, which doesn't work for my case.

Free Online Guitar Lessons – Learn Guitar – Cyberfret.com
Have been busy juggling between work, WoW, and guitar playing.
Found a great website with many advice to start starting playing guitar.
Free Online Guitar Lessons - Learn Guitar - Cyberfret.com.
somehow the anti-spam reCAPTCHA gets through.... wonder how they did this one. annoying.
The first hard lesson learned from my guitar journey
I took the guitar for a short practice this morning and then had to put it down to grab some food. I was being hasty and decided to put it leaning to my chair instead of the stand it came in. Slip and it hit the floor. When I picked it up one of the strings was very very loose. I thought it was no big deal I just had to retune it right? wrong! The fifth string snapped at the saddle and broke.
Now I have to order my strings and wait for it to come... what a bummer.
But I can always count on zZounds to give me the best prices on music instrument stuff I need.
D'Addario Wound Individual Electric Guitar String
shipping on a single string is on a steep side. So grab something else and put them into the cart to spread out the shipping cost.
Big Bends Lil Luber 1/2cc Nut Sauce Guitar Nut Groove Lubricant
and my advice? Buy extra strings along with your guitar purchase. I recommend this set because it is the same as the Squier Strat Strings.
Fender Super Bullets Electric Guitar Strings
And remember, put it back on the stand when you aren't playing. Or lay it flat somewhere so it won't fall. I learned my painful lesson.
If you still don't have a stand, or if the package doesn't come with one, here's a basic one to get started.
On-Stage XCG4 Tripod Guitar Stand
Or a off the wall solution which I prefer as I don't have much floor space.
Off The Wall Standard Guitar Wall Hanger
see you next time.
Another guitar package worth consideration.
The amp from the last post had a mostly bland review. This package includes a better amp for slightly more money.
Squier Stop Dreaming, Start Playing Affinity Strat Electric Guitar Package
Other than that the guitars are mostly the same, also you would need to get your own guitar stand for about 20 dollars here.
Fender Mini Tele/Strat Tripod Guitar Stand
For those who are determined to play a good hand of guitar, this will include a much better amp with many options to last a long time down the road.
Squier Stop Dreaming Start Playing Affinity Strat HSS Electric Guitar Package with G-DEC
Good luck on your journey
